Biography
Elissa Koopmans Schwartz is licensed to practice law in Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her first thirteen years of practice were spent at a moderate-size law firm in metro Detroit, Michigan. In May 1997, she opened her own law firm, Elissa Koopmans Schwartz Law, in the metro Detroit area. Currently, she operates her firm in metro Detroit and in the Grand Rapids area in west Michigan. She meets with her Pennsylvania and New York clients virtually and in person, as needed.
Elissa’s primary areas of practice are estate planning, including preparation of Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorney, trust administration and probate proceedings. Elissa received an Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences degree in Dental Hygiene from Grand Rapids Junior College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Occupational Education from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of Michigan, and a Juris Doctorate degree in Law from Wayne State University. She was a member of the Wayne Law Review and is currently a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
Prior to practicing law, Elissa practiced dental hygiene in dental offices for several years and also taught dental assisting in a high school vocational center for three years, all in west Michigan. Elissa enjoys going to Broadway musicals and has one published novel, which is a whodunit murder mystery. In addition to living in Michigan, Elissa lived on Long Island in New York for 18 years.
